Walks, Tours, Talks, Games, Gatherings and Festivals made it a busy and exciting 2015 in the North West Highlands Geopark, the finale being revalidation confirming our status as a UNESCO Global Geopark for for more years.

Why not join the team ..

North West Highlands Geopark Ltd is a company limited by guarantee, a social enterprise, which promotes and enhances our fantastic geological heritage and geotourism potential. Recognised as the “Cradle of Geology” and supported by UNESCO, the Board has gained significant funding from the Scottish Government. We wish to employ a manager to be based within the Geopark who will deliver this funding package to encourage economic growth across the six communities of NW Sutherland and Wester Ross.

Geopark Business Manager

The Manager will update and enhance our Action and Development Plan and deliver a Business Plan to prove our sustainability to 2020 and beyond. They will be responsible for the day to day administration and delivery of those plans. The Directors welcome applications from candidates experienced in fundraising and business planning. Based in the Geopark, salary is dependent on that experience and track record. The ability to work flexibly, either full or part time, in remote and rural Sutherland is essential yet hugely rewarding. Applicants may express an interest by email to the Vice Chairman, Stuart McHugh stuart@nwhgeopark.com or by post to the Chairman at The Rock Stop, Unapool, Sutherland IV27 4HW. The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 15th January 2016, Stuart McHugh may be reached for telephone enquiries after the 4th January on 01971 521040.

As home of the oldest rocks in Europe, the first identified thrust fault and with evidence of the earliest life; the North West Highlands Geopark really is the “Cradle of Geology”.

Dutch national airline KLM has confirmed details of a new daily service from Inverness to Amsterdam from 17 May 2016. This announcement from one of Europe’s most successful airlines is a strong vote of confidence in our economy in the NW Highlands.

With its global reach and strong brand recognition, KLM will help ensure local businesses are better connected to key markets around the world.  Tourism providers across the region will also benefit as Inverness joins KLM’s worldwide network of destinations.  In particular, the route gives us access to vital German and Dutch markets, which are among the most lucrative for inbound tourism in Scotland.

We are sure you will agree that this is further good news for Inverness and the Highlands, coming just weeks after BA confirmed its plans to launch daily flights to London Heathrow.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
