About the Geopods

What’s a Geopod?

A Geopod is an information station where you can find out more about the area around you from the panels in front of you or via our on-line content (accessible via the QR codes on the panels). Our first Geopod was installed at Rhiconich, near Kinlochbervie, in 2015. We now have a further 3 Geopods installed across the Geopark – in Durness, Assynt and Coigach.

What information is there on a Geopod?

Each Geopod includes information about the geology in the area around you, local community information, and information about NWHG and UNESCO Global Geoparks.

The Geopods are also linked to our Pebble Route: self-guided driving trails that explore some of the lesser travelled roads and small communities of the Geopark. You can order a full Pebble Route pack from our online shop. You can also find and purchase Pebble Routes at various outlets within the Geopark including the Rock Stop Visitor Centre in Unapool.

Where can I find the Geopods?

You can find the exact location for each Geopod via What3Words (which gives every 3m x 3m square in the world a unique 3 word address) listed below.

You can also use our Geopark Interactive Maps to assist you with planning your visit to each area and giving you all the information you need to make responsible decisions. The Interactive Maps highlight touring essentials such as where to find parking, public toilets, cash machines, fuel stations and much more. For more details on the Interactive Maps, please visit the main page here.
