Thank you for taking the time to read more about our Friends Scheme. This is a brand new membership scheme launched in October 2018 which will help make it easier for anyone who wants to support our work either through volunteering time or by making a one-off or regular financial donation.
You may already be aware that the North West Highlands Geopark is now a charity which receives no financial support from local or central government. Instead we raise all the money for our activities from donations, commercial activities (like selling Pebble Routes and car stickers!) and through participating in projects like Drifting Apart.
We also have a trading arm, NWHG Trading Ltd which runs the Rock Stop shop and Cafe. The trading group donates profits to the Geopark, but as you can imagine, these are very limited in such a remote area.
If you wish to become a “Friend of The North West Highlands UNESCO Global Geopark” you will make a real difference to keeping the Geopark active, supporting the management of a world class and vitally important geological area and helping to demonstrate that the wider community care about these issues.
Membership is open to all who support our mission and objectives, wherever they live. You will be welcomed, whether you wish to become a friend for a year or longer, individually or with your family.
- In return we will keep you regularly informed about all the activities that take place in the Geopark from walks and talks to courses and activities with our regular Newsletter.
- There will be discounts or free entry available at some of our events.
- A free copy of our Pebble Route publication collected on your first visit to the Rock Stop in Unapool.
- All Friends receive a car sticker to help publicise the Geopark.
Annual Individual membership: £25
Annual Joint membership (2 adults): £45
Annual Family membership (2 adults 1-3 children under 18): £60
Lifetime Individual membership: £350

Terms and Conditions
Friends membership is payable annually and is valid for 12 months.
Membership is non-refundable and non-transferable.
We endeavour to offer Friends reduced rates on as many events as possible, but there are occasions when we are unable to offer this. You must quote your membership number in any on-line requests or show your membership card at the event. We do not have a senior citizens Friends membership rate.
Your Friends membership card can only be used by that named Friend.
Child members as part of Family memberships are not automatically given membership cards, but a card is available on request.
If you wish to change membership level, you can upgrade your membership. This means that an Individual can upgrade to Joint or Family level, and a Joint member can upgrade to Family membership.
Renewal notification will be emailed/sent to you in the month preceding your membership expiry date.
You can cancel your membership any anytime by visiting your account page.
You will not receive a new membership card annually, but you can request a replacement card if your current card is lost or damaged. Otherwise your current card will continue to be valid when you renew your membership.
You are obliged to inform NWHG of any change of address, email or telephone number.
NWHG reserves the right to amend or change Friends benefits from time to time without prior notice.
