Quinag Guided Walks with The John Muir Trust

Nut collection walk. Working with our partners at Coigach-Assynt Living Landscape (CALL) join us on a foraging walk, collecting seed sources for the native tree nursery. Meet at Lochinver car park next to church/bus stop, grid ref NC094227 All walks are led by John Muir Trust staff. You are responsible for your own safety and that of your children. Talk on The North Atlantic Anthrosols by Prof Ian Simpson of the University of Stirling

Anthrosols comprise soils that have been profoundly modified by human activities such as addition of organic material or household wastes and by cultivation and are found throughout the North Atlantic region.  Advanced geoscience methods enables 'reading' the cultural record contained within these soils and gives new understanding of changing and sustainability of land management practices from the Neolithic through to the Medieval period.  Drawing on these efforts of previous generations these soils are also of relevance to land use today…
